One Minute Meditation
Is a little counter reaction to the fast paced times we move in. It encourages me, and maybe you, to pause for a moment and really notice the world around us, no matter where we are.
It's amazing how time, here a minute, feels relative. Sometimes it goes by incredibly fast and sometimes infinitely slow.
The most soothing and slowest feeling for me is in nature.

Movements is a series of 21 short videos. Very minimal and almost like a meditation. But, there is always a twist, an unpredictable event or an unexpected action involved.
1st act
It smells of old diesel in the run-down factory hall in Leipzig. Glass splinters crunch under my feet. The campaign of the Vandals has left its mark. The instincts are stimulated and the senses wide awake. The illegal territory encourages action. But which action?
The desire to play with the place and its found objects, and the risk of having no concept, but of following the intuition of the moment, allows one to cross one's own boundaries and makes space for something new. Suddenly, space and its history, the "things" and ourselves connect. The game begins. Sometimes without hesitation and sometimes tough and doomed.
In spite of failing to do so, it remains fortunate not only to see the world but to have it perceived and connect with it, as a driving force for exploration and interpretation. My paths commute between urban no-man's-land and the rough nature of northern landscapes. In them, we find correspondences, themes, and longings of our subconscious.
2nd act
Having returned from the wild expanses of the north into my own four walls, a new adventure awaits me. 27 inches of light illuminate the studio space in the dusk of a misty late autumn evening. Dozens of video clips, the harvest of my games, all whisper: «Look at me, choose me!»
In the ring of the screen unfolds the magic of the current pictures. They no longer have anything to do with the reality of the moment of taking but have already become their own reality through their two-dimensionality. Through editing and treatment, "history" can be rewritten and condensed to a point. In the processing of the "Movements", the final dramaturgy of the series develops. This is designed so that it usually holds a surprise. The moods alternate between poetry, irony and a quiet melancholy. This arises from the fact that we can indeed see something, but this seeing always points to something out side of ourselves and invisible and remains unbelievable. The vessel is here. The messages always determined by one’s own perception..

The cremation of Ubud’s queen
F R A G M E N T S O F A S T R A N G E D A Y
... On the way to the cremation site I saw the queen‘s children dressed in gold, covered with thick layers of make-up and carried on thrones. While the girl was motionless, the boy fought back his tears.
They were surrounded by wild drumming and a ruthless and furious gamelan orchestra, which was accompanied by an endless stream of visitors who wanted to pay their respects to the family. In the heat of the day and after endless hours of slow motion through the streets, the entourage finally arrived at the spot where the body was taken up to a bamboo tower 23 meters high, and from there into the paper body of a black bull, the size of a small house.
Everyone, from locals to tourists, with their cameras, drones and mobile phones ready to capture what would follow. No one seemed to be upset by this behavior. The opposite was true. Having so many people as guests seemed to honor the family.
Nevertheless, with the burning of the body of the mother of the royal family of Ubud, there was a sense of darkness in the air. Black clouds hung low in the tropical sky, and a strange and nervous wind was blowing. Something dramatic and appocalyptic overshadowed the sun. The sound and heat of the fire, the flying ashes in the air, the smell of burning flesh felt like an ancient ritual or sacrifice to an angry god.
All kinds of spirits, demons, devils and other dark creatures seemed to fly from the fire...
And yes, I know the «Rohrschach» test...

Where do we come from and where to we go to?
24 h — A Day On Planet Earth
Videoinstallation 45 min, 2010
This video is a conceptual work, which was premiered on the occasion of the Sinus Festival for Electronic Arts at the Stadttheater Basel. It shows, in condensed but not edited form, a 24 hour program of a television station, on a randomly selected day. The result is astonishing and like a mirror of ourselves, the temporary dominators of this planet. Reality and fiction merge into a human drama. Sometimes we see a tragedy, sometimes a comedy.
The sound of this video is based on acoustic disturbances, irritations and synthetic noise. Is this perhaps what we ourselves are on this planet?

Lilly — Landleben, 2010
Video 31 min, 2010
This video is an ode to my daughter Lilly. After a long trip through South America, she decided to become a farmer.
The film tries to portray her and the environment in which she took her first steps as a farmer in a poetic, dreamscape, and almost surreal atmosphere in the southern part of the Swiss Alps.
It is also a melancholic reminder of how fast time goes by.
